If you couldn’t make it to the Qype UK first birthday party last week then we’re sorry to say that you missed out on an amazing evening of quizzing, cake, general merriment, and even a spot of singing!

But don’t worry because we’ve put together a quick video of the evening’s festivities so you can get a taste of what to expect at the next Qype party, which you’ll be definitely be attending because there’s no way you’d want to miss out on this amount of fun twice, right?

And if you were there, well see if you can spot yourself doing something daft.

Here at Qype HQ we’re big believers in that old saying ‘a picture paints a thousand words’, if only because taking photos of a cool place saves a lot of wear and tear on our typing fingers.

And even if your prose is of Shakespearean quality just adding of a hastily taken, slightly blurry image taken on your phone to your review can really help communicate the awesomeness of a burger or some cheesy interior decor to your fellow Qypers.

And because we think Qype is a prettier place when it has more photos we thought we’d reward all those shutterbugs out there by giving away a sweet digital camera.

Here’s the deal: On Friday April 11th we’ll give away a 7 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S5700 to someone who’s uploaded at least one image to Qype between now and then.

That means every time you upload an image in the next month (whether it’s a photo of a place or even a profile pic of your lovely smiling face) then you’ll increase your chance of winning the camera.

So what are you waiting for? Get snapping and cross your fingers (not both at the same time though, obviously).

To quote Brad Pitt:

“The first rule of Qype Club is to write more reviews. The second rule of Qype Club is to write more reviews!”

Ok, so that’s not a direct quote, but it’s true: the more reviews we have on Qype the more useful and fun the site becomes. So in an effort to encourage our users to write up their experiences of local places we’re introducing a bit of an incentive.

Over the next few days we’ll be giving away a pair of Odeon cinema tickets for every 20th review submitted to Qype UK.

All you have to is submit your stories/experiences/critiques as you normally would and if you’re the lucky twentieth (or fortieth, or sixtieth… etc) reviewer then we’ll send out a couple of gift vouchers to you straight away.

And, while we’re talking about special offers, don’t forget that all you have to do is tag your next review with ‘virginwines’ and you’ll automatically get a £40 Virgin Wines voucher.

With 2008 just around the corner, we wanted to squeeze one more blog post into 2007 by saying a big Christmassy congratulations to the winners of our Facebook fan competition.

A few weeks ago we set up a Facebook fan page for Qype and offered a a free month’s worth of London travel to one out of every hundred people who signed up. We got a great response and, so far, we’ve amassed 300 virtual Qype groupies, so on Christmas day we took five minutes away from the turkey and Quality Streets and picked three names to send an extra festive present to.

So congratulations to Annabel, Madeleine and Sonia! You’ll be receiving your recharged Oyster cards very soon. Use them wisely.
