Next Qype party is on 29 May!

14.05.2008 from Rob
Qype Party 2

We said we’d try and do one every month, and after April’s fantastic knees-up the pressure is on to do it all again.

So this time we’ve booked ourselves a cool little space above the Theodore Bullfrog pub, right next to Charing Cross station that will hopefully be pretty handy for everyone to get to and from. Festivities begin at 7pm and just like last time there’ll be a few free drinks available and a bit of grub to graze on too.

(And, no, we have no idea where the pub’s name comes from, answers on a postcard please.)

We know we’re being very London-centric right now, and we can only offer our apologies to everyone outside the M25. Sufice to say, we are coming your way very soon, and if you know of (or run!) a fantastic venue somewhere that you’d be happy for us to invite a bunch of discerning reviewer types along to then do get in touch.

See you all on the 29th!

Get Chatting

29.04.2008 from Siany

Siany has spent the morning with a craving for Chinese food. Specifically sesame prawn toast. Don’t judge her - it happens at least three times a week. But after trying a couple of great places she needs to find somewhere else to get her MSG fix.

So when things like this happen, we turn to all you clever Qypers. There’s a little known forum on Qype called London Chat. It’s perfect for answering all of your questions and just chatting about general stuff and nonsense. You’ll get to know lots of other lovely Qypers and find out some more secrets about London to impress your friends with. The more people start chatting, the more helpful it’ll be.

And if you could all please share your Chinese Buffet secrets, well that would make Siany extra happy.

Qype Party: The Aftermath

4.04.2008 from Rob

andrew versus chupa chup

Thank you to everyone who came to the first ever Qype UK party last night at the Coach and Horses in Soho. Judging by the decidedly hungover emails we’ve had today it seems that everyone had a great time.

We personally enjoyed the appearance of the world’s largest Chupa Chup (above), the mini fish and chips, and the fact that Tube blogger Annie Mole fell asleep on the way home and ended up in Hounslow.

We should say a huge thank you to Coach and Horses landlord Alistair and the best barmaids in the whole of London: Jo and Denise.

All the photos from last night can be found on this page and don’t forget to review the Coach and Horses in the next week to stand a chance of winning £50 behind the bar plus a meal for four.

See you all at the next party!

New Hype On Qype

31.03.2008 from Siany

outside-photo1_gallery.jpg

We’re getting bored again. We’ve been to all the same places and we want somewhere new! So we thought we’d have a nose around Qype to see where we can try out this week.

Places you’re loving:

  • Richard Ward Hair And Beauty is getting rave reviews, so we’re off to make ouselves pretty.
  • San Rocco in Manchester sounds pretty good for those of you up north.
  • Giligulu in Edinburgh is getting the thumbs up. Siany has been there too and thinks it’s pretty great.
  • CAH197 is very excited about Le Petit Canard. We think that’s French for ‘little duck’.
  • And the ones you’re not so fond of:

  • You’re having nightmare days out at O’Neils in Bournemouth.
  • You’re not a fan of the Horse & Farrow.
  • Sum in Cardiff doesn’t impress you.
  • Maria81 isn’t scissor happy with About Face in Oxford.
  • So hurry up and join in the fun. Go to the good places and tell us what you think. Or find some new places and tell us all about those. We’re very nosy at Qype.

    Let Qype Guide You

    31.03.2008 from Siany

    gherkin.jpg

Isn’t it great to find a new place in your local area and then shout about it? Yeah, that’s fun. But sometimes it’s also pretty great when someone does all the work for you. That’s why Qype Guides are great. They do all the hard work, you just have to pick up an A-Z and go.

So what new guides are there for you to scout around this week?

  • Tim Dickinson thinks everything he ever needs is on Wardour Street in London. He might have a point.
  • There’s some great pubs in Shropshire apparently. (Which is Siany’s home land so she’s inclined to agree!)
  • Caught short in Oxford? Print out this handy guide to public loos.
  • You guys are getting all architectural this month. Wanna see some great buildings in Brighton? What about London?
  • See, you’re spoiling us. Don’t stop. It makes planning our busy social lives much easier.

THE VENUE: The brilliant Coach and Horses pub just off Charing Cross Road (click the link for all the details).

    THE DATE: Thursday April 3.
