We’ve Scored.

1star.jpg

How do you score your reviews? Are you a harsh reviewer? Or are you more forgiving? We realised yesterday that the way you guys see our scoring system changes from Qyper to Qyper. Obviously one star is pretty easy, so is five stars, but it’s the bit in the middle that seems to cause a bit of variation. So to kick off the debate, here’s how Siany reviews her places:

  • 1 point: The worst experience we could have had. Rude service, bad food, anything that makes us angry and unhappy.
  • 2 points: Awful service. Nothing hugely redeeming about the place, but if you’re completely desperate you’ll put up with it. There’s just usually never any need to and that annoys us.
  • 3 points: The ’shoulder shrugger’. This is the kind of place we usually go because someone else likes it. It’s not bad, it’s not wonderful. Either it’s just OK, or we don’t get what the fuss is.
  • 4 points: Hurrah! Finally we’re getting better. Siany actually thinks very highly of her 4 star places. There’s usually just one tiny flaw that means that don’t get that extra bonus point.
  • 5 Points: These are the places that Siany couldn’t live without. And as it goes, Siany is actually quite fussy.
  • So there you go. Are you more harsh than us? Do you have a different way of scoring your reviews? Or does it just depend on whether you’re typing before your morning cuppa? Tell us in the comments.

    Your City Needs You!

    cityhallqype.jpg

If you’re not sure who to vote for in the forthcoming Mayoral election, fear not! You can have a practise first! Hurrah!

We’ve got a bit of a poll going so you can see what other people think and you can find out that Qype’s very own Bushgirl is hoping of running. That’s really quite exciting. Think about a fellow Qyper running the city. No more bad service! No more rude snotty waiters! Nice things for London!

The more we think about it, the more it makes sense… we say no to Ken! No to Boris! Yes to Bushgirl!

We also want to tell Boris to get a haircut, but that’s really another post altogether…

    Top Qyper - Annette Strauch

    annette

There are some people on Qype who manage to write excellent reviews of just about everywhere they go. Whereas we often get too drunk to remember where we go.

Annette Strauch has over 11,000 Qype points so we had a chat with her to find out more.

    Tell us more about yourself.
I just love meeting people from all different walks of life and from different cultures. I had an emergency operation on my spine four years ago - and was very ill but this taught me you only life once! This is my Qype motto: Live life to the full! It is up to you and in your mind what you can do and what you cannot. I love travelling.

I love wellness and saunas. That is why I like those reviews on Qype. Also I like good wine, chocolates and good music.

How did you get so many points?
It is a surprise to me really! I do not really care about the points - but it is nice to see that people are reading my reviews.

What makes you happy about the place you’re reviewing?
The good experience at a place, happy memories, a nice day out - all that makes me happy when I review that place and also the fact that I share the place with interested readers such as fellow qypers.

The place you actually wanted to keep a secret?
Llanfrothen Castle. Not many people know about this place in North Wales and it is nice and remote. A nice little castle in a stunning scenery.

How can people write better reviews?
If they write reviews that are not too short and not too long. Trying to grasp the important info and writing it in an intersting style. This is the secret.

Who else should you look out for?
    Hafi46, FalkAndrea and Scipio.

What else do you want to see happening at Qype?
Even more active users in the UK, especially in Wales, maybe Qype Italy, Qype Spain, a real European Qype - this would be my dream!
